2007040710013293[edit]

Can somebody pelase check out ticket:2007040710013293 and see if it is a legit ticket, since it has been added in plaintext by Céréales Killer in 2007 on the followig files:

I'm currently at work, and don't want to open OTRS. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 09:02, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

  • @Josve05a: it's a real ticket but it appears to contain no actual license. It's a shame, because it could probably have been fixed at the time. Storkk (talk) 09:24, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
    • @Storkk: Would you agree that it would be appropriate to tag these with the appropriate "OTRS recieved (but insufficient)" tag? --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 17:48, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
      • @Josve05a: Not sure there's much point, given the ticket is 11 years old... but it might be worth a shot if a francophone user wants to reply to that ancient ticket, and see if the film studio wants to specify a free license. Storkk (talk) 17:56, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
@Josve05a, Storkk: Apparently sending the email failed:
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed <omissis>
But original copyright holder said "libre de droit", which is equivalent to our "public domain". --Ruthven (msg) 07:17, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

@Ganímedes: File:Mallu actress.jpg may appear to be available on http://reshmamalluactress.blogspot.com/2018/05/datemay12005-this-work-is-free-of-known.html with CC0 ("License to use Creative Commons Zero - CC0. You are free to use for many purposes without worrying issues licenses because this picture is TRUE FREE.", it's just dripping with sarcasm), but the date on the site ("SUNDAY, MAY 1, 2005") seems to have been faked (as the URL says 2018/05), the blog has no other posts, the author is claimed to be "Mike Dichen" (but what does a G+ profile prove?) and the photo as shown there is cropped, Tineye finds the uncropped photo in various places, none of which seem to be the actual source. It looks like a magazine scan to me (because of the colors) but I can't prove that.

@Viki80: The only ticket I can find which mentions "Alsterufer" is Ticket:2018041210013299, but that is resolved and doesn't mention the filename above. Do you have a ticket number? Looking further re File:Ivan Otto Schwarz.jpg (which may be the same photo), we have been waiting since 19 January for permission from artist Pavel Rampir in Ticket:2018011610010147. While we wait, would a bust or headshot crop of the latter file suffice? That would be a vast improvement over File:Ivan Otto Schwarz.png.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:21, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Email has not been delivered from artist Mr. Rampir yet? Is It possible to load this photo again? Thx to answear VW.

  • Signing your posts on talk pages is required and it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on deletion requests, undeletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Ticket #2018062010007572 (Bob Reis from Anything Anywhere)[edit]

Bob Reis from the website Anything Anywhere has sent an e-mail to the Wikimedia OTRS team giving permission for a few very specific pages on his website, due to the nature of his website (being a commercial business) I had made a deal with him that I would ask permission per page (or pages) and that he would evaluate permission to be released under free licenses based on several circumstances, usually if I would also use some of his images in a Wikipedia article and kept him up to date on it, the licenses however are free for re-use but as I would ask him separately per a number of pages I prefer that if an OTRS template for uploading his images would be created that it would be something alongside Template:Anything Anywhere1 so it could leave room for a future Template:Anything Anywhere2. I know that the backlog is 99 (ninety-nine) days so I have no hurry with this ticket being processed (also I am working on several huge projects on Wikipedia and have to import images from earlier tickets anyhow), however when it is processed could the agent who processed the ticket leave a message on my talk page with the template I should use for every upload? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:06, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Oh yeah, these separate templates for separate permissions should probably all organise into the same maintenance category (Category:Media contributed by Bob Reis (Anything Anywhere)) if possible so they can be grouped together, but as the permission will essentially be either per page or per group of pages each ticket should have its own template. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:35, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Doktor Pronin[edit]

Hi, Doktor Pronin (talk · contribs) added several OTRS permission to posters, but they doesn't seem to be a member of the OTRS team. Can someone speaking Russian verify please? Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:15, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Pinging @Rubin16.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 15:29, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
In my opinion there should not be {{OTRS ticket}} as far as the permission is published on the site. It was a GNU GPL permission in the conversation for all the site, and in my opinion there is a small problem in the fact that Doktor Pronin writes that he's the only author, but in fact he's only the right's owner. Anyway, with the permissionon the site it's not a problem of OTRS. Анастасия Львоваru (ru-n, en-2) 14:19, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

File:Pragya jaiswal at IIFA Utsavam.jpg[edit]

Please review the permission and fix the OTRS tag for File:Pragya jaiswal at IIFA Utsavam.jpg --Sreejith K (talk) 20:06, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

@Sreejithk2000: I find no mention of that file or source file in Ticket:2017032910012057.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 21:52, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Sreejith K: Same by my side, as I mentionned while removing the template and to the uploader. I would advise to speedy delete since the uploader as put the permission a third time on the file (without template this time). --AntonierCH (d) 10:56, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
We have a lot of files in Commons with this ticket. What all files does this OTRS email cover? I can create a build DR if required. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:50, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
I also looked at this ticket, (came from w:en:WP:OTRSN, didn't see this until today). Definitely not listed there. I'll also note that there appears to be a discussion about this on User talk:Perumalism --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 01:58, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

File:Kaffee in Cutete.jpg, File:Leuchtturm von Oecusse.jpg and File:Sitz des Administrators in Oecusse.jpg[edit]

Is the string "Ticket#2014061110003331" on these three file description pages created by J. Patrick Fischer in 2014 a reference to a valid OTRS ticket? The file descriptions don't have any actual OTRS tags on them, which I'd expect them to have if the ticket was reviewed and approved. LX (talk, contribs) 21:34, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

@LX: The ticket was reviewed in 2014 and does not contain a valid permission statement. — JJMC89(T·C) 00:42, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
I loaded up several photos of Mr. Cruz on this date. The others have got a valid permission. I do not know, why there is another ticket number on this three files, maybe because two emails were send by Mr Cruz for permission and the older one doesn't have a license mention, so maybe there were two tickets open. The correct ticket number is 2014061110017719. Can you fix it? (Please mention my name or leave me a message, if there are further questions). --JPF (talk) 06:59, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
I've merged the two tickets to ticket:2014061110003331 since they are about the same set of images. Nine images listed here were included in the ticket. File:Leuchtturm von Oecusse.jpg is not there, and I cannot verify the uploader at the listed source since the Facebook group is closed. — JJMC89(T·C) 01:44, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
The direct link to the Leuchtturm-photo on FB would be here. --JPF (talk) 10:59, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
JPF: "Sorry, this content isn't available right now" – probably because it's in a closed group. LX (talk, contribs) 14:42, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
So, what to do? There is no rule, sources have to be available for public. --JPF (talk) 15:48, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
The purpose of providing source information is to enable checking that the copyright information is correct. And for OTRS volunteers to confirm a permission, the permission obviously needs to identify the content in question. Perhaps it would be possible to give an OTRS volunteer access to the image, or to change the privacy settings of the image? In any case, it sounds like additional correspondence will be needed. LX (talk, contribs) 16:06, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Isn't it possible anymore to request simpley entrance to the group? Anyone should have a FB account. The group is not belonging to a secret organization. :P --JPF (talk) 09:29, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

All I see (while logged in) is "Sorry, this content isn't available right now. The link you followed may have expired, or the page may only be visible to an audience you're not in. Go back to the previous page · Go to News Feed · Visit our Help Center". Can't even see the name of the group. LX (talk, contribs) 11:08, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
I could make a screenshot and send it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. --JPF (talk) 15:54, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
Should I or not? I want to have the photo "safe", before the origin is not available anymore. --JPF (talk) 14:48, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Update permission of File:Kylie Padilla, Filipino - Australian actress.jpg[edit]

Hello! Can I ask you an update of the above-mentioned photo I uploaded? The photo was posted on her Twitter account (@kylienicolep) more than a year ago, and I'm glad that it is so unique that is why I use to use the photos from her personal Twitter account instead from her Facebook and Instagram accounts.

PS: If you have an update regarding that particular photo, feel free to answer to my response. TY. RenRen070193 (talk) 14:11, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

@RenRen070193: The owner and subject of a photo is not usually the copyright holder, the photographer usually is. Please have the photographer send permission via OTRS (with "[Ticket#: 2018072910003049]" in the subject line without quotes) with a copy to you. We have not heard from any of them yet, just you.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 15:06, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Ticket 2009101410050321[edit]

Ticket 2009101410050321 seems to be for scanned copies of File:The world starts tonight front newcd.jpg and File:Natural force front.jpg album covers sourced from a record retailer, for which the art work is owned by the record company and not usually freely licensed. Please check if this is valid. Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:12, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

@Secondarywaltz: The permission was from Cherry Red Records, which matches the source on those files but doesn't match the record label on the English Wikipedia articles for those albums. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:47, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Exactly! Cherry Red Records does not have the necessary permission for those record covers and the OTRS is invalid. Secondarywaltz (talk) 03:52, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
@Secondarywaltz: FYI, I've started DRs for those two files. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:39, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

OTRS permission before upload? How would this work?[edit]

Hi

I know that there is a significant delay in OTRS permissions being granted and that this is causing issues with images being deleted. Is there a way that an outside organisation who was not overly familiar with Wikimedia could:

  1. Apply for OTRS permission for a batch of images on an external website before uploading them? How would this work? What should they say? What should they add to their uploads to make it work once they have the permission?
  2. Apply for OTRS permission for a batch of images which aren't online before they are uploaded to Commons? How would this work?

I'm currently working on documentation on uploads and would really like to offer simple and easy to follow step by step advice that makes it easier for them to share images with Wikimedia and makes OTRS volunteers' jobs as easy as possible. I'm also very happy to work on documentation on OTRS pages to include this information.

Thanks very much

John Cummings (talk) 20:30, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi John Cummings , if the images have not been previously published (either online or offline), they do not need to go through OTRS procedure. The copyright holder can simply upload them to Wikimedia Commons and release all the associated rights when uploading.
But if the images have been published somewhere else, they still can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and if the uploader tags them with {{subst:OP}}, they will not be deleted before an OTRS agent handles the ticket. So there is no need to send a permission statement before uploading the images to Commons. 4nn1l2 (talk) 03:37, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi @4nn1l2:, thanks very much for your reply, this has not been my experience, images get deleted despite having an OTRS pending template. Could you tell me if there is a way of getting the OTRS permission before uploading the content? Thanks John Cummings (talk) 10:24, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
@John Cummings: No, that is not possible, as far as I know. If I were to handle such tickets, my very first response would be "what image on Commons are you talking about".
But let me say again that {{subst:OP}} works! Please take a look at Category:OTRS pending. There are images uploaded on 4 April 2018 and not deleted yet. There are 140 (133 + 7) days between 4 April and today. 133 is our current backlog which is updated regularly at Commons:OTRS/backlog, and 7 is {{npd}}'s respite. 4nn1l2 (talk) 11:20, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
@4nn1l2:, thanks for clarifying, in the OTRS release generator it gives two options:
1. Files already uploaded to Wikimedia Commons
2. Attach the file to the email
How do it work when people attach the file to the email? Does the OTRS person just provide a template with the OTRS number which is added to the files when the are uploaded?
John Cummings (talk) 14:17, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
@John Cummings: Typically, when they attach the file, they don't provide enough information to fill out {{Information}} properly, so we have to ask for that information. Once we have the information (which sometimes happens in the initial message), we can upload for them (including {{PermissionOTRS}}) or encourage them to upload for themselves. If they upload, we then apply {{PermissionOTRS}}.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:45, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
One follow up question, if the organisation sent an email to OTRS saying 'everything a specific user uploads from our collection is us uploading it' is that possible? Would you then give an OTRS number which they would add to every upload? John Cummings (talk) 14:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
@John Cummings: Yes, that is possible, in which case we make a template for them (including {{PermissionOTRS}}), and they can then use that template on every applicable upload.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:49, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: thanks very much, do you know of an example of where this has been done (so I can understand what the template is and where it should be used in the upload wizard process. John Cummings (talk) 14:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
@John Cummings: There are multiple examples in my page creations in Template space, including {{Long Island Museum}}.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 17:51, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Charlotte Auerbach and Vote 100 ribbons images[edit]

Hi, I've been discussing some recently deleted images with Jcb regarding OTRS permissions for an image of Charlotte Auerbach released by the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Research Collections and multiple images related to Vote 100 from the City of Edinburgh Council Museums and Galleries. The discussion is here. The Charlotte Auerbach image was deleted from Commons as no permission had been received within 30 days but the release was sent on 7 May 2018 and is in the OTRS queue to be processed. Nico Tyack, Collections Officer at City of Edinburgh Council Museums and Galleries has resent permission for the deleted Vote 100 images yesterday. So would it be possible for someone to take a look at these deletions and see if they can be restored? @Mike Peel: is this something you could take a look at? Want to make sure this all goes through okay as we are using the Vote 100 images as part of a showcase Histropedia timeline on one of the giant smart tables at the entrance to the University Collections. Any assistance would be gratefully received, Stinglehammer (talk) 13:05, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Ticket has been handled and the permission is unfortunately invalid. Jcb (talk) 14:27, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi both. I can't access either of those links so can't tell what has happened or why the permission is invalid. Plus are we talking about the Charlotte Auerbach image OR the Vote 100 images or both? Can you explain more as to what has happened? Or let me know how one can become an OTRS agent so I can see what's happening for myself as ultimately we would like to see these images released on Commons and a lot more from both University of Edinburgh's Centre for Research Collections and the City of Edinburgh Council's Museum and Galleries. very best, Stinglehammer (talk) 11:29, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
@Stinglehammer: Ticket:2018050710007885 is about the Charlotte Auerbach image (our customer is trying to find the rightful heir of the photographer's copyright) and Ticket:2018082210004746 is about the Vote 100 images (internal discussion is inconclusive). Moin everybody
It's summertime, holidays in Germany, because I would not clear images delete when we are already talking to the customers. Generally I would like to say that the admin does not press the delete button so fast, if the OTRS team is on it. It just means more work because I have to ask an admin every time.

Hi!
On a big project like Commons, admins don't always know what images are handled by OTRS agents and at the moment we have a backlog until April. But to make clear that you uploaded a picture to Commons about which you'd like to converse with an OTRS Agents, please use {{subst:OP}}, so Admins know about the situation. en:File:Richard_Ellis.jpg and File:Richard Ellis-49 copy.jpg[edit]

Hi, I noticed en:File:Richard_Ellis.jpg citing ticket 2016112510013602 and claiming that someone removed this image from Commons after it was uploaded. Can someone please validate that 2016112510013602 applies to en:File:Richard Ellis.jpg and that the license is valid? If the image was uploaded to Commons and previously deleted, can you restore it? --B (talk) 12:35, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

@B: en:File:Richard_Ellis.jpg is not mentioned at all in the valid ticket, but clearly it is it looks similar to a less-cropped version of File:Richard Ellis-49 copy.jpg, which was mentioned by name but not URL. I will leave assessment of potential previous deletion and restoration to those with more bits.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 01:04, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Thanks, but please note that in File:Richard Ellis-49 copy.jpg, he is not showing teeth, while in en:File:Richard Ellis.jpg he is - so it's different pictures. Still, though, the uploader of both images is Rsellis (talk · contribs), so if he has authenticated himself in the OTRS ticket, that should be sufficient for us to accept the second image? --B (talk) 06:41, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
@B: No. The owner and subject of a photo is not usually the copyright holder, the photographer usually is. We need permission from the photographer of en:File:Richard Ellis.jpg via OTRS.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 10:06, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, obviously I understand that, I was just seeking to know if it was something general that we had ("my photos of Richard Ellis") or something specific. --B (talk) 12:31, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Woodcuts of Petter Lorens Hoffbro[edit]

I recently added the following picture to Wikimedia Commons, and was just informed of that the description of the copyright situation I gave did not suffice to substantiate that the picture is in the public domain. The picture can (as of yet) be found at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Petter_Lorens_Hoffbro_woodcut_Johannes_Magnus.tif

The picture was taken on the request of a Jonas Nordin for use in his works. The woodcut in itself is obviously no longer protected by any copyright, and as far as the photograph in particular is concerned, Jonas Nordin informed me when he sent me the picture, it does not come with any copyright attached to it, and that I was free to distribute it as I wished. What do you require that I provide to make you satisfied that everything is acceptable in as far as having the picture on Wikimedia Commons is concerned? -- Makemakean —Preceding comment was added at 18:38, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

@Makemakean: You had better use a standard license template such as {{PD-old-100}} rather than writing in words about the copyright status. Furthermore, please note that in Nordic countries faithful 2D reproductions of old paintings usually result in a new copyright to the photographer (Commons:Reuse of PD-Art photographs#Nordic countries). Nevertheless, Commons:2D copying states that such photographs can be hosted on Wikimedia Commons. 4nn1l2 (talk) 06:26, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Do you think this permission (in French) is sufficient? i.e. File:Photo portrait de Clément Berlié au Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps en 2017.jpg. It is not the standard CC license, but I think the text is equivalent to a free license. However, the permission comes from the subject, the photographer's name is not given, and it is not specified how the subject acquired the copyright. What kind of document should we eventually ask? Regards, Yann (talk) 08:49, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

@Yann: Without the name of the photographer or means of transfer of copyright, no it is not sufficient. Others reading this board may wish to review COM:ANB#Rédacteur31.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 00:50, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I agree, and I requested more information. My question is about what kind of document(s) we need to assert copyright ownership. It is quite probable that we won't get a copy of the contract, as it may contain confidential information. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:29, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
@Yann: Acknowledgement that it exists would help.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 10:01, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Possible deletion[edit]

Good day @DarwIN! I'm here again to ask about the possibility of deleting a photo due to lack of owner's authorization. I understood your side and I'm open for that possibility as well as I'll accept whatever the result might happens afterwards. Do you think you'll do that? ````

Clarification on licencing (BC highway sheilds)[edit]

I noticed that the File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16.png on Wikimedia Commons has an OTRS licence, even though it's similar to the non-free w:File:British Columbia Highway 5.svg and w:File:British Columbia Highway 16.svg. If I'm interpreting the licence correctly, could I substitute a '5' for the existing '16' and create a similar file and save it under the same licence? Does that mean I could use it on {{Template:Jct}} (replacing the use of File:BC-5.svg)? --MuzikMachine (talk) 16:32, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

@MuzikMachine: Yes, I believe so, but please tag them {{subst:OP}} and let me know when I may add the OTRS permission.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 17:11, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Thank you! I converted to .svg and uploaded the files as follows:

Trusting that is okay. -- MuzikMachine (talk) 16:37, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

@MuzikMachine: Yes, I added the permissions.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 17:12, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Need help with: Permission for upload of paintings given by Artist himself[edit]

I request the OTRS volunteers to check if the correct licensing information have been given in the following uploads to Wikimedia Commons and if the template PermissionOTRS|id=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX can be applied.

The uploads are images of paintings by Artist Mumbiram, who has also published the paintings on his website www.mumbiram.com

Emails for OTRS have been sent and received ticket numbers, which are given here. The email has been sent from the copyright holder (Artist Mumbiram) from his email address: mumbiram@yahoo.de, which is also the email associated with the website, www.mumbiram.com, where the file has been initially published.

I am worried that the uploads get deleted as it has happened to another file, which I uploaded with the same permission. That the file has been deleted can be seen here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Advocate_Ramdas_Paranjpe,_Oil_Painting_by_Mumbiram,_Pune,_1990_s.jpg It had the Ticket#2018072410007741.

I thank you for your help. If there are any licensing issues about these uploads, please let me know. --Kusum Bhagavat (talk) 15:47, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose If a free license has been sent to OTRS, then the file will be restored automatically when and if the email is received, processed, and approved. Note that OTRS, like Commons, is entirely staffed by volunteers, and, also like Commons, is shorthanded, so it may be close to 133 days before the email is processed and the file is restored.
If the message was sent to the English language version of OTRS and the email has been properly received there the sender will receive an automatic reply with the ticket number. I believe to have followed the guidelines in the upload and permission process for this newspaper article. I need help as I don’t understand why the template of the upload states “message was not sufficient”.
