Translation marking request[edit]
Hello. Can this page be marked for translation please ? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Africa_2017/FAQ
Thanks Anthere (talk) 11:58, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Anthere: Done. I'm sorry that I didn't notice your request earlier. --jdx Re: 12:49, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Template:Welcome/i18n/mr[edit]
I have updated Template:Welcome/i18n/mr. Please approve it --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ
- @Tiven2240: There is no need to "approve" (whatever it means in this context) your changes/translation by a translation admin. I believe it is fine, as per COM:AGF. However if you are looking for a second opinion, just ask someone who speaks your language. --jdx Re: 12:08, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Jdx: the page reads This page is a translated version of a page Template:Welcome/i18n and the translation is 100% complete. Changes to the translation template, respectively the source language can be submitted through Template:Welcome/i18n and have to be approved by a translation administrator.. --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 12:54, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Tiven2240: But you haven't changed anything in the source template, i.e. Template:Welcome/i18n. You've just changed one of its translations, i.e. Template:Welcome/i18n/mr, and this action doesn't need to be approved by a translation admin. More, there is no such technical possibility. --jdx Re: 13:11, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Image location in RTL pages[edit]
Hello. I am trying to translate Commons:File renaming/fa but I do not know how to change the location of the image from the right side of the page to the left. Please let me know if you know how to do that. 4nn1l2 (talk) 18:09, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
- @4nn1l2: Is it OK now? IMO it's not an elegant solution, but a quick & dirty hack. Although it seems to work. --jdx Re: 23:24, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
- I think it should be done automatically by getting the language direction – {{TNT}} can get page language somehow, and {{dir}} can determine a language’s directionality. (It’s still not ideal as that would be some magic transformation by Translate extension itself, or a variable magic word which can be used, but seems a lot less hackish. And a lot harder to implement.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 16:26, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- For sure it is a frameless vs. thumb issue – please notice that the thumbnail at the bottom is displayed as expected without any modification. --jdx Re: 16:41, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- It’s because thumbnails are automatically floated – to the right for ltr, to the left for rtl languages – while frameless images are inline by default, so they should be floated manually with the
right
/left
keywords. This keyword is needed to be “translated” automatically based on the page language. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 10:30, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

I have the same issue with the following pages:
- Commons:Staying mellow (both pictures and the userbox)
- Commons:Dispute resolution (box)
- Commons:Revision deletion (both pictures)
Thank you. 4nn1l2 (talk) 10:25, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
Afghanistan at Hirtle chart[edit]
Hi. I removed Afghanistan from the Hirtle chart per discussion: Special:Diff/272040349. I also removed it from several pages such as Translations:Commons:Hirtle chart/126/pl and Translations:Commons:Hirtle chart/205/pl. But when I want to translate the page into another language, such as Persian, it still shows Afghanistan. Could you please take care of it? 4nn1l2 (talk) 21:50, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Done BTW, please do not change translation units manually before the source page is marked for translation – it does not make sense. --jdx Re: 22:58, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Arabick immage[edit]
Does anyone know what the text of this immage is? File:10361323 10152900398478561 60v25891304287578524 n.jpg? I can't read the writing, and it's not used anywhere, so I'd like to know if it's something that is within our scope. Thanx. 68.174.30.176 21:58, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- I don’t know what it is, but I’d bet it’s copyvio from Facebook. The filename is exactly the Facebook filename format. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:24, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
Licensing templates do not appear to be localized?[edit]
I don't have time to do this right now, but I noticed that templates (e.g. Template:PD-self) are not localized when viewing Wikimedia Commons in other languages. While I am a native English speaker, meaning that this isn't a serious problem for me specifically, this could be jarring or even debilitating for speakers of other languages. Judicious use of int: as used by e.g. Template:license-header and creation of new MediaWiki messages for the PD templates should fix this. 50.32.146.226 12:38, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- This template is localized, exactly by using MediaWiki messages. See for example the German version. Most-used license templates are all localized, the majority with MediaWiki messages, while some of them uses on-wiki localization. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:04, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Problems in translation[edit]
Hollo.
- Hello.Translations in file namespace does not actually appear on files.Do they have any other benefit?
- The Link in Translations:Commons:Cultural treasures on the net brochure/text/191/ar can not be added correctly because the message "
The text you wanted to save was blocked by the spam filter.
This is probably caused by a link to a blacklisted external site.
" appears to me, please correct
Thanks
--ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 15:07, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yes. The file descriptions are translated. Isn’t this enough to be called beneficial?
- It often helps to copy the text to a left-to-right editor to point out syntax errors. Corrected. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:04, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- I do not mean the description but I mean that this does not appear in the files
- Thank you --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 06:45, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- These are subtitles, as the message group name suggests. They are displayed directly on videos (or above the controls for audio files). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 19:14, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Translations:Commons:Welcome to Commons brochure/text/47/qqq[edit]
Translations:Commons:Welcome to Commons brochure/text/47/qqq has some issue with "Template loop detected: Template:Msg >" anybody knows how to fix it? --Jarekt (talk) 18:28, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
Template:Hitachi Rail Europe[edit]
Template:Hitachi Rail Europe uses {{Autotranslate|base=Template:Hitachi Rail Europe/text}}. Unfortunately Template:Hitachi Rail Europe/text is missing Template:Hitachi Rail Europe/text/en which is usually created by Extension:Translate and which is required by {{Autotranslate}}. I am not able to add that page by hand nor by Extension:Translate software. Any ideas what to do? --Jarekt (talk) 15:20, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- It already exists now. Next time if you create or touch Translations:Template:Hitachi Rail Europe/text/1/en by hand (using the traditional edit form, not the fancy Special:Translate), it should create the template namespace page. Another solution I use often is to create the /en subpage before marking the base page translation. The latter works of course only if the page isn’t already translatable. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:05, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
transitioning Template:PD-1996-text to Template:PD-1996-text/i18n[edit]
Template:PD-1996-text is used on a lot of pages and the page just run out of "Lua Memory". Template:PD-1996-text has great many translations which have to be moved to subpages of Template:PD-1996-text/i18n. Is there a fast way to do this task? --Jarekt (talk) 03:30, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- I don’t know of any. You can try using a bot to create the translation subpages (see the existing ones here), although it seems pretty hard to me, as quite some translations have other format than the English text. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 20:05, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
Move of Template:Mozilla Public License[edit]
Hello to be to late here, I deleted Mozilla Public License/i18n (in fact ./en got deleted) to be able to move subpages per hand from Template:MPL/] (which got not moved due the move bug phab:T114592 by @Jarekt: 2018-03-22) which seems a very bad idea from me. As now (FuzzyBot) deleted all subpages without warning. And I restored all pages, but now the template is not translatable anymore. (I mentioned this on phab:T114592#4452632 too) -- User: Perhelion 10:07, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- After refresh/editing of the /i18n subpage any language got overwritten with English (I guess restoring the "bot deletion" was a very bad idea). I really do not feel like re-entering each language manually. An undo of Move or something would be very good!? PS: Maybe a detailed documentation, what is going wrong here, would be good.
- I definitely guess now, undo any action of FuzzyBot (← our friend) is not going to the solution direction. -- User: Perhelion 06:34, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Request for competition in August[edit]
Hi there! I ask for translation mark for the pages:
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Contact
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Lists
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Participate
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Prizes
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Rules
- Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Menu

- @-revi, 4nn1l2, Abbedabb, Alangi Derick, AleXXw: @Alno, AlvaroMolina, André Costa (WMSE), Astinson (WMF), Bachounda: @Base, Benoit Rochon, Brackenheim: We would really appreciate your help here. Could you please mark the page for translation? Just please be aware that we in meantime restored the old version (which is multilingual using LangSwith template) - the pure English page for translation is the last revision by KuboF Hromoslav (talk). Thank a lot! --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 15:29, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- @KuboF Hromoslav: Hi, I don't understand the request much, I see that several of the pages are already translated (at least to my language, Spanish) and on the other hand I don't have the option to mark the pages for translation. Remember that in order for a page to be translated, it must be prepared in advance (see this instructions). Regards. —AlvaroMolina (✉ - ✔) 15:53, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Now that I look in more detail, most of those pages are using LangSwitch and not the Translate Extension. I don't know if LangSwitch works well on pages like Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Menu, maybe someone more expert with that template can help us in a better way with this... —AlvaroMolina (✉ - ✔) 16:02, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- @AlvaroMolina: Yes, we have returned to LangSwitch in order to make it work multilingual in the meantime. Now I have just restored the English version and added the "<translate>" mark. I did my best to prepare the pages for translation. Please, can you now mark them for translation? --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 16:59, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

- Hello KuboF Hromoslav, to prepare the pages for translation, they should be done sentence by sentence. So please go through the Wikitext of the pages and add the translate tags in each sentence for efficient translation. Thanks --Alangi Derick (talk) 20:02, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- See what I've tried doing here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_ZEOs_2018/Contact to get the idea. So the basic idea is you'll have to prepare the pages for translation sentence by sentence and take note of breaking intuitively. --Alangi Derick (talk) 20:15, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Done quickly for 4 of the pages − hope that helps :) Jean-Fred (talk) 22:16, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Big thank to all you, especially to Jean-Fred and Alangi Derick! I have just finished import of old translations. Some notes:
- What about Commons:Wiki Loves ZEOs 2018/Menu? Alangi Derick have already marked it for translation but then removed from translation. Can it work?
- The translating sentence by sentence was actually less efficient than translating paragraph by paragraph {the paragraphs here are generally short).

Requesting marking for translation[edit]
Dear translation admin. I would like to request marking for translation of the following page: Commons:Wiki Cinta Budaya 2018. Currently, it is written in Bahasa Indonesia (id), probably it is better to have it translated into more languages such as English for more exposures. Thanks, ··· 🌸 Rachmat04 · ☕ 14:29, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Dear fellow translation admins, This is the first time that I am marking a page for translation and I need your help. I changed the source language from English to Indonesian, but it appears as if the English translation has already been done. What is the problem and how can I solve it? Thank you. 4nn1l2 (talk) 15:22, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello 4nn1l2, I don't think it has been translated yet. If you see here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Commons%3AWiki+Cinta+Budaya+2018&language=en&action=page&filter=, it's just the same text copied over to the English version so that needs to be overwritten. So the translation is still yet to be done. So on this link, overwrite the right side to actual English not the same source language. :) --Alangi Derick (talk) 18:53, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you User:Alangi Derick, it seems everything is fine. As far as I can understand, copying over the original Indonesian text to the English pages (which was done automatically by the system) does not make sense. English should be treated like any other languages, say Japanese. "100% translated into English" message and the green squares may be misleading. 4nn1l2 (talk) 08:17, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello @4nn1l2:, yeah, those 4 green squares were misleading for sure until one changes to English before he/she could see it's the same language as source and not English. But it's good to hear that everything is great now :) --Alangi Derick (talk) 09:37, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

As per this discussion, these templates have been modified in the English version. The other languages will need to be updated as well to include the new instructions about requesting unblock. Guanaco (talk) 09:17, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
