U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Administration Dr. Gregory L. Parham listens to Blacks in Government (BIG) National President Elect and Keynote Speaker Dr. Doris P. Sartor during the USDA recognition and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday with observance of the Drum Major for Service Award Ceremony, on Thursday, January 12, 2017, in Washington, D.C. On this day and throughout the year, all employees are encouraged to perform volunteer service in their communities. Known as A Day of Service, all agencies, staff offices, and employees are invited to participate in USDA’s Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service by volunteering two hours of their time to a non-profit organization of their choice. Volunteer efforts can be performed by group/office or division or individually. USDA’s Drum Major for Service Awards acknowledge employees who serve as helping hands, performing extraordinary acts of volunteerism with reliability and commitment, but seldom receive recognition. All nominees for this award must be current USDA employees in good standing. Winners will receive a plaque and certificate of appreciation for their accomplishments. USDA Photo by Lance Cheung.
