Description |
English: The main house at Liliesleaf, Rivonia, South Africa, a "safe house" purchased on behalf the then-banned anti-apartheid organisation, the African National Congress in 1961. At the time the property was a 11 hectare smallholding, though now it is part of suburbia. The house was raided by the South African Police on 11 July 1963, a day when most of the ANC hierarchy were present. Those arrested included Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Raymond Mahlaba, Ahmed Kathrada, Arthur Goldreich, Dennis Goldberg and Lionel Bernstein.
