Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
- [[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
- [[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
- [[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Ciao, purtroppo NON ho il catalogo di Sommer, in effetti mi ero messo a cercare di costruirlo io su WikiCommons. Per ora ho smesso perché non ho più (da quando ho cambiato casa) la connessione in fibra, ma solo una chiavetta con soli 100 Mb al giorno (troppo poco per i Gb di foto che caricavo in passato).
Purtroppo quelle foto io le prendevo da ebay, e mi basavo sulle dichiarazioni dei venditori: qui palesemente qualcuno ha fatto confusione. Ad ogni modo la risposta corretta è "Siena", come mostra questa foto: File:Battistero_siena_01.jpg. Buonasera, ho visto la foto di Sommer di Piazza della Scala, dovrebbe correggere la didascalia non siamo agli inizi del '900 ma nel 1870 circa: è il periodo dell' inaugurazione del monumento a Leonardo. Inoltre la datazione è suffragata dal sistema di illuminazione della piazza, quel tipo di lampione era per l'illuminazione a gas(1855-1890ca), l'illuminazione elettrica a Milano iniziò nel 1883 con l'inaugurazione della stagione della Scala e, dopo il grande successo, il Comune appaltò alla Edison il servizio di illuminazione pubblica qui link a cartolina viaggiata nel 1906 http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s465/evaristo2000/PiazzaDellaScalaPrimi900-2.jpg ed un palo dell'illuminazione elettrica in primo piano sempre dei primi anni del '900 http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s465/evaristo2000/PzaDellaScalaPrimi900.jpg Ringrazio per l'attenzione Max

Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked File:Kusakabe Kimbei - 62. Vegetables.jpg on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy| type reason here }} and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Yeah, I want to have the cat deleted, but I did not find "nominate for deletion" in the tools and then I got a call. I'll mark the cat now. Thanks for your help. File mover[edit]
The functionality of the template {{rename}} has recently changed. You might need to clear your cache to see the changes. If successful you should then be able to use the new "Quick adding" link in the template to instruct CommonsDelinker to replace the old name with the new name in all wikis. Category:Painters from X[edit]
Catfisheye, I appreciate help with cleaning up Category:Painters from X. While cleaning that category I was usually trying to
- verify info in the creator page based on a wikipedia page or Google search. If Wikipedia page existed than add link to it, populate birth/death location and check Description field which was set by default to painter.
- search Commons for other images , creator pages or categories of the same creator. If there are other creator pages or categories than pick the one with the better name and leave redirect from the other. If there are any images than add them to the new category
- finally I would properly categorize the categories themselves and remove Category:Painters from X
I am not sure what was your process, but can you either try the same steps or let me know and I will do it. By the way there will be about 100 more categories like that tomorrow based on Category:Creator templates without key information. - I read that there was a decision some years ago. But when I started to sort the Cat Churches in Belgium had over 3.000 files and I did not want to create micro-cats for cities (like Churches in xyz), if we have only 3 files of this town, all of them depicting the churches. Hallo Catfisheye. Herzlichen Dank fuer die schoenen Fotos von Giorgio Sommer die du geladen hast. Es waere aber wichtig dass du ihnen nicht nur die Author/Fotograph Kategorie gibst, sondern auch die entsprechende Ortschafts Kategorie. Es sind sehr schoene und interessante alte Fotos, die dann genau in ihrer Sujet Kategorie nicht vorkommen, wo sie eigentlich von den meisten Users gesucht werden. Was ich so gefunden habe, habe ich unterdessen saniert. Koenntest du bitte deine uploads sistematisch kontrollieren? Ich waere dir sehr dankbar! - Sì, mi sembra di aver sistemato tutto quello che avevo notato. Però ho visto che le foto di Giorgio Sommer presentavano un po' tutte dei problemi e delle dimenticanze, e così me le sono fatte a tappeto. Non ho finito però ancora del tutto, perchè attualmente sono molto preso dal riordino del Museo di Capodimonte. Vorrei finire di sistemare tutte le foto ancora sotto "Giorgio Sommer" e sotto "Photographs of Giorgio Sommer". Quello che ho fatto è di sistemare tutte quelle delle città della Campania e quelle della Svizzera. Ho creato anche alcune nuove sottocategorie. Ho anche controllato che le foto da me trattate figurassero nel Catalogo, e lì ho poi integrato e corretto dove necessario tutte le didascalie. Poi ho fatto cambiare a Delinker il nome di alcuni files palesemente errati (come nome o come numero). Quello che va fatto è sistemare le foto nelle loro categorie cittadine già esistenti, e se sono almeno tre, di creare la relativa sottocategoria, da agganciare poi alle "Historical images" della città e della regione; oltre che dare la categoria del soggetto rappresentato. Insomma, è abbastanza impegnativo. Se nel frattempo ti ci vuoi mettere tu, nulla in contrario; altrimenti tornerò a finire tutto appena mi libero del Museo di Capodimonte. Fammi sapere. Volevo dirti, giusto per informarti sui criteri adottati, che nel catalogo di Giorgio Sommer, nelle didascalie ho usato il bis solo quando per lo stesso numero vi sono due soggetti diversi (p.es. 5556) oppure quando la foto mostra lo stesso soggetto ma sono due foto differenti (p. es. 1116 o 1117), e non quando si tratta di due stampe diverse ma dello stesso negativo (p. es. 5509). Ciao Cat. Allora nel poco tempo che ho in questo periodo, vediamo di fare di nuovo qualcosa di utile, e non dover rincorrere stupide posizioni che fanno solo perdere tempo e tranquillità. Sie sollen diese Suppe selbst auslöffeln ! Ti segnalo allora alcune foto "illegibili" alle quali poi puoi dare il nome corretto secondo gli standard di Dall'Orto. Ti metto fra virgolette quello che si legge e così come è scritto sulla foto.

- File:Sommer, Giorgio (1834-1914) - Catania e l'Etna.jpg "n. 1375 - L' Etna dal Giardino Bellini (Catania)"
Done - File:Sommer, Giorgio (1834-1914) - Isola Bella.jpg "n. 7072 - LAGO MAGGIORE. Isola bella e Isola madre". Il numero si potrebbe anche leggerlo 7872, ma ho visto che nel catalogo c'è la foto successiva 7073 che è anche del Lago Maggiore, allora penso che possiamo senz'altro dare lo 0 anzichè l' 8. Done anche nel Catalogo, no so se il delinker funzionava, perchè c'era un messaggio che non ho capito per bene. Cmq spostato. Le cat mi sembravano a posto. Infine File:Sommer, Giorgio (1834-1914) - Palermo - Monte Pellegrino.jpg, è una foto che mi fa molta rabbia, perchè la scritta si legge molto bene e le ultime tre cifre anche (000); ma il primo numero si legge malissimo: potrebbe essere un 1 o un 2 o un 3. Incredibile! E il catalogo anche non ci aiuta... Credo che questa la dobbiamo lasciare così come è, a meno che tu non voglia assegnarle il numero x000. La scritta che si legge è questa: "x000 PALERMO. Monte Pellegrino". Done
Posso chiederti un altro favore? Se cambi il nome a questi files, se puoi anche aggiornare e/o correggere la Description. E controllare le categorie assegnate. E spostare le foto nel catalogo, naturalmente! Sempre e solo se tu lo vuoi; altrimenti poi lo farò io, gelegentlich.... Grazie infinite!!. - Hallo Dengiù, als hier Mitlesender habe ich mir erlaubt, das Bild Napoli Costume mal als ersten Schritt auf einen Dateinamen mit der richtigen Katalognummer wie auf dem Bild aufgestempelt zu verschieben. Bei PALERMO Monte Pellegrino werde ich mal versuchen, via harter Kontrastverschärfung in Photoshops-RAW-Konverter vielleicht etwas mehr Information aus der ersten Stempelziffer zu gewinnen. --Alupus (talk) 14:02, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

- Hallo Denghiù, beim Palermo-Bild ist es eher die Nr. 3000, da man oben einen Bogen rechts abwärts und unten eine Bogen rechts aufwärts sieht. Aber die erste Ziffer ist auch nach den Photoshop-Spielereien mehr als undeutlich zu sehen. Schließlich sind die Ziffern kaum zehn Pixel hoch. Gruß, --Alupus (talk) 22:22, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

- Ciao Denghiù questo caso è abbastanza speciale, perché non sono identici: Lì c'è un cane sulla sinistra dell'uomo e un ragazzo è sparito e dal altro è rimasto solo l'ombra. Mi sa che è della stessa seria e di Sommer, ma non si sa per certo. Sul commons sono abbastanza severi, non so se basta di attribuirlo.
- Guarda un po' per curiosità, mi sa che è davanti dello stesse stabilimento, però un po' spostato:

- E' incredibile ! Interessantissimo ! Direi che la foto Sommer = cartolina (come base), ma la cartolina è molto manomessa con aggiunte e rimozioni di vari personaggi. Rispetto alla foto U & U è chiaro che si tratta della stessa ditta ed edificio. Sarebbe interessante chiarire se questa impresa si trovava a Napoli o piuttosto a Torre Annunziata (dove si trovavano la maggior parte delle fabbriche di maccheroni). Voglio fare qualche ricerca se riesco a scoprire questa fabbrica di Manzo Michele dove si trovava esattamente. Vedremo. Se scopro qualcosa, ti faccio sapere. Neues Autochrom fürs Projekt[edit]
Ich schau heute morgen in ein niederländisches Fotobuch und sehe dort ein gutes Autochrom von Frank Eugene, google danach (hab' ich beim Googlen bisher nach Eugene noch nicht gesehen) und bekommme dieses Digitalisat in schöner Auflösung: [2] Nach US-Recht ja gemeinfrei, so oder so. Von irgendwelchen Schutzrechtsberühmungen sehe ich nichts, soweit ich es lesen kann. Wie siehts du die Hochladbarkeit?
