If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. That file was marked with dual license: pd-old and pd-poland, but according to the description there were part of some street art photo essay, displayed in 2006 and someone took a picture of it. Cos status of that photoessay is, at best, not known, none of the PDs is applicable. The picture was originally uploaded by Slav, who is known to not really follow licensing guidelines. U were displayed as an original uploader at enwiki, however no link was provided, so I couldnt verify any additional data. Moreover in first two version of the image description you werent displayed there. You've added yourself later as an author, then changed for an uploader. Masur (talk) 07:10, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I believe that the fact whether or not building was destroyed has nothing to do with the status of its photography. To remind you - PD starts after 70y after the photographer death ot 1st publication if photographer was unknown. Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
- [[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
- [[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
- [[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hello, Chesdovi, a while back, I saw your collage for Jerusalem in Wikipedia. However, the Tel Aviv collage has about ten tiny pictures, and Haifa has none. What is commons[edit]
As detailed here "Wikimedia Commons is a media file repository making available public domain and freely-licensed educational media content (images, sound and video clips) to everyone" - a repository - means that many pictures of the same subject may be kept. - You uploaded 2 images. One shows a donkey, and two men looking one way, the other shows a donkey, and the same two men looking the other way. Why are both needed for educational purposes? To me, they are showing the same thing. Why don't you just upload 100 of the donkey and these men’s movements over 2 minutes - they will all be different and unique, does that justify inclusion? No need to flood commons with practical duplicates. Wikimedia Foundation is running a fundraising campaign at present to raise millions of dollars needed to pay for, among other things, the ever growing space needed on the hosting servers. It is not helpful, efficient or fair to the charity to upload such similar images, especially if they are of rather abstract things. I hope you agree. You have no understanding of the meaning of the word "repository", the purpose of the commons (it is 'not to hold just one picture for every subject, but rather to be a repository of all possible useful free images), and this actions is very odd and displays bad judgement or lack of understanding. Harav Nagari[edit]
Thank you for the image of Harav Nagari. The truth is I was starting to get somewhat frustrated that all the images you upload and articles you write were pertaining to rabbis of a particular ethnic background but I wasn't sure how to express any criticism along those lines in a way that would be sensitive and not make it seem like I don't appreciate the work you do in relation to European Jewry, which I appreciate very much. Recently I attended an informal gathering of Libyan Jews and picked up a copy of the journal their organization publishes, לבלוב. There's a story in the September issue on one רבי ציון ביתאן who lived from 1860 to 1955, most of his life in Libya (born in Djerba and died in Tunis). There's a photo There are photos of him in the journal. I'm wondering how you obtain the old photos you upload to Commons and whether you presume they're uncopyrighted by default on account of their age, or whether there's some process you go through to determine there're no copyright restrictions.Biosketch (talk) 13:45, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

The licence "PD-Austria" was not correct. 50 years was for simple photographs, "shnapshoots". Now the "art" component is set lower and this 50 years are only for automatic-photographs, x-rays and so. "unknown-autor-70-years-EU" is also not possible, because there is an artist name on the right side.

- The 3rd category listed on the "PD-Austria" licence: "All other photographs and artworks" are PD in Austria if published before 1942. This image was published in a book printed in 1929. However, the artwork was most probably made decades earliers, and therefore is PD in the US too. Chesdovi (talk) 12:50, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- I corrected Template:PD-Austria. We have in Austria for Art 50 years p.m.a. (after death) from 1936-1953, 57 years from 1953-1972 and 70 years from 1972 until now (§§ 1, 2, 3 & 60, 61). In 1936 all photographs was 25 years after publishing. In 1953 was introduced/splitted "photographic work" ("Lichtbildwerk") with 70 years p.m.a. and simple photographs was 30 years, in 1996 raised to 50 years. In 1996 there was also adopted EU-law wich made the "simple photograph" very simple.
- So for drawings, the "70 years after publishing" is only for anonymus work, since 1936. And for all other it is "70 years p.m.a.". --Fg68at de:Disk 15:04, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
