Aurlogo-1.jpg

Dear INeverCry, On an advice of Robert Bruce I'm contacting you re. deletion of Aurora Fine Chemicals Group Logo (Aurlogo-1.jpg) Dear Alex, Most likely the characterization stemmed from the fact that you have no entry on any of our encyclopedias for your company, if I had to guess. I have no control over the deletion decisions made by our editors on Commons, so you'll need to speak directly to the administrator who deleted the image for more information or to ask him to reconsider his decision, as detailed in my last message. Messaging him on his user talk page would be your best bet. Yours sincerely, Robert Bruce Dear INeverCry, I'm a little bit surprised and also confused about your decision to delete a picture of Aurora's logo. Our chemical company name "Aurora Fine Chemicals" wasn't chosen randomly. As you know Aurora means dawn in Latin, and the goddess of dawn in Roman mythology and Latin poetry. Aurora renews herself every morning and flies across the sky, announcing the arrival of the sun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_(mythology) Rising sun in a framed by benzene ring picture should symbolize beginning of a new chemical company. That was my logo idea which I created for my company I founded in 1995(!). Since then our logo with small modifications by professionals has been used in all our brochures, business cards, web sites, exhibition's materials etc. Please let me know and I'll provide you with these evidences immediately. I'll also send a professional picture of it if you like. Please let me know what's that makes you to stereotype our picture as "outside the scope of Commons". Please re-consider deleting our logo picture. Looking forward to your reasonable decision. Again, thank you for your kind assistance. Best regards, Alex

Hi Alex. File:Aurora logo(Converted).svg looks a lot better than the logo I deleted. Feel free to re-upload the one I deleted, but in png or svg format, as PDF isn't a good format for logos. INeverCry 18:53, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

OTRS request on a couple of files

Hi, we received an OTRS ticket on the files STAS.jpg and Targa_palazzo_Marzi.jpg, that have been deleted. As I don't have the admin rights, so can you please check for me what these photos look like, and if there is any issue in accepting their publication? Can you also check for me the other ones as well that you deleted from the User:Massimo_Marzi's contributions (I suppose that we will receive more OTRS tickets from the user)? Thanks a lot. --Ruthven (msg) 08:20, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

The STAS image is of a man speaking at a red table, and looks to be from the 50s or 60s. The Targa image is a photo of a marble plaque dedicated to Giovanni Marzi. Other than that, he's got about 25 deleted edits, so I don't have the time describe that many. The Targa image was deleted by Alan, along with a few others, while I nuked Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Massimo Marzi. The alternative is that you can just request undeletion of the bunch, check them, and if any need to be re-deleted, you can have me do that. That would be quicker probably. I do that with other OTRS members: they request undeletion, and then tag duplicates and out of scope stuff to be re-deleted. INeverCry 17:02, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot INeverCry, I'll just request the undeletion for the OTRS that Massimo Marzi sends us; from the title of the other deleted images, some are probably copyviol so it is useless to spend time reviewing every picture. --Ruthven (msg) 10:17, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Caribbean visa image

He INeverCry, 2 weeks ago, we had a discussion on the deletion of a file on caribbean visa from the Netherlands. I have taken up the matter with the proposer of the deletion (User_talk:Stefan2#Caribbean_visa_image), but he seems not to be editing at the moment. Could you re-assess your deletion decision in light of the arguments presented there? I'd love to be more specific in rebutting the original deletion proposal by Stefan4/Stefan2, but his argument for deletion ("Bogus copyright tag") was not sufficiently specific to do so... L.tak (talk) 23:02, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Stefan2 is a copyright specialist, so you'd be much better off with him. If he's not around, your best option would be to ask about it at COM:VP/C, which is dedicated to copyright-related questions. The people there are usually much better with intricate copyright questions than I would be. INeverCry 23:06, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

"Plaket" in my language

Escuela Eugento de Hostos 101

Hi. Good to have you around. A question: How do we call these things? Is there a cat to bring together all these "plaket"s? (Name for the Dutch and us, the Turks, as I understand). Ihave seen Category:Plaquettes, which looked kind of different to me (all with faces etc, not only a "note"). Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 09:00, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Category:Plaques? Or maybe Category:Historical markers and information signs. --GRuban (talk) 14:49, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Perhaps a sub-category like Category:Historic plaques. INeverCry 17:35, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

User:Jackguitarfan

I see that you extended your block on User:Jackguitarfan to prevent talk page access or email. The user has been trying to appeal his commons block through en:User talk:Jackguitarfan on enwiki, which of course he can't do. It isn't clear to me how he can appeal his block here. Of course I haven't seen the evidence which led you to tighten the restrictions on him here, but from his behaviour at enwiki he appears more confused than malicious. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:31, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

His contributions here were copyvio images from two different photographers, and a long (17kb) copyvio biography which has been revision deleted here and at en.wiki. An SPA that behaves like that isn't good for Commons. We get a number of people here who want to promote or write about their favorite musician, actor, etc, and they just snag images from Google and write glowing bios. They usually don't copy and paste whole web pages into our sandbox though. I'll open up talk access, but he's going to have to know that he can't upload copyvio images or post text here. INeverCry 17:47, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

this is a curious one

Please see File:Richard Carroll.jpg which appears to be a hoax image. I am unsure if the en:wiki article is as well, it's astonishingly light on references. Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:50, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I've done a fair amount of work with images from 1900-1920 sourced to Google Books scans and this has fake written all over it. Ignoring the bad photoshopping (see where neck meets collar on the right side; the partially cropped off ear on the left, etc.), it is very uncommon to see a smile in photos from this (purported) era and the crosshatching from the scanner is a dead giveaway. The scanner artifacts are present on the lower portion/body, but not the face/hair. A legitimate image would have them consistently over the entire image; here's one of my images as an example of these artifacts: File:William Wyckoff.png. Эlcobbola talk 17:05, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
I do a fair amount of work with older images, this one appears to be a hoax image to me. Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:00, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz:, @Elcobbola: I've tagged it for speedy deletion as a hoax on en.wiki. If/when they delete it, I'll get it deleted from ru.wiki and Wikidata. If/Once the articles are deleted I can delete the image here, and block the acct for cross-wiki vandalism. INeverCry 18:27, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: The speedy was declined at en.wiki, and they want me to jump through the usual hoops, which great pleasure I regretfully decline. I'm not comfortable editing there, and haven't been for a long time. I think I'll stay away from en.wiki from now on, not that I was doing a whole lot there as it was.

BTW. The mama cat brought 3 tiny orange kittens to the food and water yesterday evening. They're only a few weeks old. I tried for a pic yesterday, but my Coolpix wasn't up to the task and spat out its usual blurfest... INeverCry 22:45, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Awww, so cute tiny kittens! I've asked Binksternet to have a look at the article. BTW, you have to leave me a few deletes, I used to be #3 admin and now dropping to #8 because you're eating *all* the low-hanging fruit! Ellin Beltz (talk) 23:08, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Just imagine if Fastily was still an admin here! We used to do like 75% of all deletions between the two of us. Yesterday I did something only Fastily had done before, which was to close a whole day's DRs, every single one, on the 1st day they were eligible for closing. Remember, I'm Mr. OCD, and Fastily being in 1st place with 510,000 deletions doesn't sit right with me, especially when I have a measly 330,000. I'll do some nominating though, and you can pick off copyvios while I'm doing DRs or license reviews... Me and Didym used to run over each other too when we closed DRs... Face-wink.svg
@Ellin Beltz: Plenty left in Commons:Deletion requests/2016/08/13, including a bunch of mine. INeverCry 00:58, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

File:P.V. Sindhu.png

Hello. Was the image that you deleted about 15 minutes ago the exact same image as the one that was deleted less than 24 hours ago? Thomas.W talk 18:47, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Two different shots, but still the two uploads from two different uploaders in such a short time gives me pause. Perhaps @Elcobbola: or @Magog the Ogre: can see if they're connected. They look like possible socks of each other to me. The two accts are Lekshman9693 and Dalek2point3. INeverCry 18:58, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
I would say Declined for this. These two accounts don't seem to have anything in common outside of this one image. Lekshman9693 is primarily (even solely) focused on Indian Athletics, both in image uploads on the Commons and the spam-y edits that got him blocked on en.wiki. Dalek2point3's edits cover a variety of topics, and are stylistically quite different. I suspect the relationship with this image is due to attention from the ongoing 2016 Olympics, not sockpuppetry. At a minimum, I would say wait until there is additional evidence of a connection; this is one very, very weak data point with no corroborating evidence or behaviour. Эlcobbola talk 19:12, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
There you have it. Thanks Elcobbola. INeverCry 19:22, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
