Thoughts on steel OX plates?

After seeing some of the Aluminum plates popping up on the forum, I was thinking of some other routes to go aside from the garolite/aluminum.

The reason I was thinking about steel plates, is the fact that it is cheaper than plate aluminum in most cases. My only reservations on the steel is weight.

For any of the guys w/ the aluminum plates, about how much do they weigh?

I was thinking steel plates could be laser cut, with a 'webbing' style cutout in unused spaces around the plate to reduce weight, while still being extremely rigid.

It probably doesn't matter what you use. I don't have access to anything that can cut steel and garolite is expensive here so aluminum is my choice.

As Dude said, you can use any material that you want but using steel you may be looking at maintenance too. Rust is the first thing that come to mind that you don't have to worry about with alu or garolite. Using stainless steel will more costly.

Yea, I'm aware of that, nothing a little paint can't fix. I'm probably going to end up with aluminum plates anyway
