3.3mm deflection of the 3mm steel is 3 times the 1.1mm of 6mm aluminum. To match the 1.1mm deflection, you'd need 4.26 mm (0.168") steel which is fairly close to 8 gauge plate.
I have updated the plate files now that I have the esentrics, I found that they just didn't fit well enough, now with the new files the wheels slide on with .5 mm clearance in the fully loose position on the essentrics and all wire strap points are m5 threads. I'm now fully confident in my plate design and will be offering plates. If you would like a set of plates PM me and we can work out the details. Keep in mind that it takes about two days to mill a set while dealing with the day job.
I have uploaded my files, hope it helps. For anyone that uses my sketchup files to mill their own plates be aware that I do not use tabs Also I under sized the holes for all the M5 hardware and esentrics so a fast post milling using 13/64 drill bit on the M5 holes and 9/32 bit for the esentrics cleans up the holes providing a true circle and perfect fit for the hardware
Yes I mill the holes in the plate but have left just enough for the bit to clean the holes up to get the perfect circle on the drill press
This set is called for but yes I take orders as they come. Most sets take about three days to mill, clean, tap and ship depending on my work schedule. Right now I offer the 4 plate set and name plate if desired. All other items can be found on the open builds store.
A set of plates will be ready for shipping by tomorrow night. I will be starting the next set tonight
Pm me your full mailing address, I will message you with my pay pal info when shipped and provide you with tracking number
@dddman I have received payment Ty and let me know when they arrive, I shipped them 2 day express to get them there for Monday
Another 4 plate set are fresh off the mill and will be ready for shipping by tomorrow night. Back to my build I go
Well a few days of milling and we have the first full OX AI kit with my belt clip design incorporated into the OX plates Assembled belt clip
I have the great fortune of being the guy that Robert is building this "master" plate kit for. (Or, at least one of the people, maybe I'm not as special as I think I am - don't want to be too presumptuous). Robert's pieces really are works of art. I'm like a kid at Christmas every time I open my email to find a new PM with a pic attached! I'm not sure if it's normal for a grown man to be this excited over hunks of aluminum... I'm super excited about this build though, and can't wait to see these beautiful plates installed!
lol too funny @skrider Because I am the same way, I say yes its perfectly normal to drool over aluminum plates when they are that nice
Great work Robert. The plates look fantastic. Will you offer all the aluminum plates and motor spacers for sale as a set? If so, how do I find out the price and get on the list?
This kit came about as a snowball effect and simply was a matter of good timing as I'm waiting on parts to complete my OX. I will see what I can do and how much shipping would be just pm me your address.
Your Custom NEMA23 set up is just about done. Need about two more spacers for coupler clearance I will send 8 in total as I don't know your motor shaft length Bottom turned out great I have test fit the plates on 20x60 and IMO your going to need about 12" length of it so that your motor has room due to the rear motor/pulley being in the way, just a heads up. The rest of your build should go as the original OX does so following Kram242's awesome build videos should guide you the rest of your build
Those look fantastic, Robert, this is going to be sweet! I'm on the OpenBuilds store as we speak ordering lots of other goodies for the build...
These are the parts I have used to design your Z assembly so they are your best bet. http://openbuildspartstore.com/8mm-acme-nut-block/ http://openbuildspartstore.com/8mm-metric-lead-screw/
