What is a Faraday Isolator?
Isolators
RF Basics
Editorial Team
Dec 2, 2018
A Faraday Isolator is a device that isolates the laser source from an optical system, to protect the laser source from reflections. It uses the magneto-optic rotation phenomenon to protect the laser source from reflections that can damage the operation of the laser system.A Faraday Isolator basically acts as an optical diode allowing the propagation of light in only one direction. A typical Farada...

What are Dual-Junction Isolators?
Isolators
Editorial Team
Aug 13, 2018
A dual junction isolator is consists of two regular isolators connected back to back (in series) in a single package. Since the RF signal has to go through two isolation paths, dual junction isolators provide greater isolation. The trade-off here would be that these isolators have a higher insertion loss and are larger in size compared to single junction isolators.
What are Triple-Junction Isolators?
Isolators
Editorial Team
Feb 18, 2019
When three regular isolators are connected in a series in a single package, it is called as a triple junction isolator. These isolators are used when greater isolation is needed. The resultant forward insertion loss and isolation of the triple junction isolator will the sum of the individual isolator losses and isolations.Triple Junction Isolators are usually more compact and cheaper than using th...
