Bias Tees Basics & Selection
Bias Tees are used to provide the DC bias – Voltage and current to RF components. As can be seen in the figure, the RF signal incident at the port on the left side will be delivered to the port on the right side, whereas the DC signal at port on the upper left side will be delivered to the port at the bottom. The capacitor blocks all DC signals whereas the inductor blocks all RF signals, allowing the Bias to be set.
Bias Tee Selection
When selecting a Bias Tee it is important to know the parameters that you need to specify. Below are a list of the key parameters to look out for when selecting a bias tee:
Frequency: This is the frequency range for which the bias tee will be able to isolate RF signals from entring the DC port and the DC signals from entring the RF port.
Voltage Rating: This is the maximum bias voltage that can be applied by using this bias tee. It is also the voltage that the bias tee can handle before breaking down.
Current: This is the maximum bias current that can be applied to a circuit using this bias tee.
everything RF lists Bias Tee’s from most manufacturers. Using the parametric search tools you can narrow down on bias tees that meet your requirement. Specify the frequency, voltage, current or even the connector type – SMA, N Type etc. You will get a non-bias list of standard products from the leading manufacturers in the industry.
