Aw good eye my friend lol
It is a small to medium sized mill with the ability to mill 1" thick material.

Mine will be used for PCB milling :)
I am putting together 10 limited kits that will only require the v slot and a few other items from the open builds store.

The first kit is done and the prototype is just waiting on the electronics :)

There are some sneak peek videos on my YouTube ;)

    Ty :)
Just a small 12v 5 amp switching supply off eBay, I will be using a 12v 30 amp from OpenBuilds for the final build
The motors will also be swapped out as the ones on the test unit are 100 step instead of 200

As soon as I source all the parts that are out of stock or not sold on openbuild I am pulling the trigger so at the latest it will be two days. How do I get on the prototype list for the laser Plate :)

Let me see what I can do for the laser plate, are you planing on using a nema17 motor?
I may even have a spare diode housing here some where

Wow that would be great. This will be my first try at laser cutting/etching. I have worked with mema17 in the past with my shapoko so that is what I was planning on using.

Also is there an alternative to the GT2 (2mm) Aluminum Timing Pulley "out of stock" that will still let me use the belt in the grove technique.

    Robert,
At first I am wanting to cut/etch foamboard and maybe some other thin materials. What are some good suggestions on entry lvl diodes.

    This would be my suggestion

I milled something up fast before bed and I did have the extra diode housing to go with it.

I found some on ebay and they are on the way.
I was about to place my order and they are out of 8mm Low Profile Screws M5 :banghead:. Are 10mm too long?
  16. JCPhlux

    JCPhlux Journeyman Builder

I have my laser, Lens, protective glasses ordered. I will have to check if my power supply I was using on the CNC is is 12 volt and if it is I am good there. All that is left is ordering the parts from openbuilds.
Looking at what is in stock will the 10mm screws work or will they be too long?

Sorry for the delay as I just finished a 16 hour shift at the day job.
I'm not sure of the stock issue I just had a heads up as I was also looking to get the 20 tooth for my other project.

I will be headed to the post tomorrow and will send the plate and housing your way

I was using limit switches but decided to switch to optical.
Just have not gotten around to building them.

None as of yet because I set the scale of my drawings to within the travel zone, also use a software limit in grbl

Yes but with multiple passes and depending on the color, the number of passes will very.
If your talking any white plastics no.
White foam I think so paper also.
It has more to do with how the material absorbs the beam

Thin ABS Black, Balsa, Foam Board white/black, 1/8 plywood maybe.

I would say yes to all, some will cut faster then others.
Be aware of the fumes and smoke from said items as they may be harmful.
I have mainly used mine for etching and cutting 3m wrap for automotive use

I'm sure you will find many uses for it
